The Salewa Alp Trainer Mid GORE-TEX® Kids' Shoe is a mid cut hiking boot for children, and Salewa make a specific claim about it: it was the first kids' GORE-TEX® boot fitted with a Michelin sole. The mid cut supports the ankle on loose ground, which is where a child's walking day usually goes wrong.

• Michelin JR Ultra Train outsole: an Outdoor Compound rubber sole from the tyre company, with a real tread pattern rather than a scaled down adult one.
• GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort membrane: waterproof and breathable, in the version tuned for active use rather than for insulation.
• Mesh, suede and coated fabric upper: a mix that breathes where it can and resists abrasion where it must.
• 290 g per shoe: light for a waterproof mid cut boot, which matters when the legs are short.
