The Salewa Rescue Blanket is a 40 gram aluminised survival blanket measuring 210 by 160 cm, the item that lives in the bottom of a first aid kit for years and then matters enormously for twenty minutes. It has a gold face and a silver face.

• 210 by 160 cm: large enough to wrap an adult completely, including the head, which is where most heat is lost.
• 40 g: light enough that there is no argument for leaving it behind.
• Two sided, gold and silver: the general convention for these blankets is silver facing out to reflect sun and heat away, gold facing out to hold a casualty's own body heat in. Salewa do not state the convention themselves, so treat it as general first aid guidance rather than a manufacturer instruction.
• Aluminised film: the reflective layer is what returns radiated body heat instead of letting it escape.
• Single use in practice: once unfolded it will never pack as small again, so it is worth replacing after use.
• Two sided
• Gold and silver
