Nikwax Down Proof is a wash in waterproofer for down filled jackets, gilets and sleeping bags. It treats both the outer shell fabric and the down fill itself, so the down keeps its loft and its insulating power when conditions get damp. It is not for footwear and not for synthetic fill.

• Treats the down as well as the shell: this is what separates it from a shell proofer, because wet down loses its loft and stops insulating.
• A proofer, not a cleaner: Down Wash Direct is the partner cleaner and must be used in a separate wash cycle first, never in the same one.
• Wash in application: it goes into the machine or a hand wash rather than being sprayed on.
• Revitalises loft: the treatment restores the insulation as well as adding repellency.
• Published dosing: 150 ml per garment, or 150 to 500 ml for a sleeping bag depending on its season rating.
• No heat needed: the repellency develops without tumble drying, and the product is free of PFC chemistry.
